This has only a little to do with Philosophy, but I just thought it was really cool so I wanted to post it. Donald Meichenbaum, a retired professor at the University of Waterloo, taught struggling students to “talk themselves through tasks”. He called this cognitive behaviour modification. This is psychology, yes, but the notion of transference is similar to John Locke’s Associationism. Also, I think it’s valuble to understand this as a means to understand how one’s philosophy as an educator might be such that we need to be leaders and role models in learning.
