It’s been mentioned a couple of time in class that the foundational influences of Descartes and Locke still contribute to creating distinctions in identity and philosophical understanding for the French and Anglo speaking parts of the world. That’s been running through my mind a lot and I’ve been trying to wrap my head around it. While doing so, I stumbled across Georges Bataille. I haven’t had much time to engage with him, and I’m confident that he won’t come up in class, but I just have to put him somewhere, you know? He engages with a sense of materialism that has some really profound implications and I’m still scratching my head a lot about it. Bataille is certainly an example for me of an example of the differences present in French and Anglo philosophy.
